Now, the company appears to be shifting focus toward a more accessible product: everyday smart glasses. Industry analysts report the project is advancing, with a potential launch window around 2027. This would position Apple in direct competition with Meta, which has already found a market with its AI-powered Ray-Ban glasses.

According to supply chain reports and analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is developing a lightweight wearable that resembles conventional eyewear. Unlike the immersive Vision Pro, these glasses would use a simple heads-up display to project information like notifications and directions into the wearer's peripheral vision. The design priority is all-day comfort and social acceptability.

The glasses are expected to be a primary vehicle for Apple Intelligence, the company's on-device AI system. Apple executives reportedly believe a device worn on the face, with constant access to cameras and microphones, is better suited for context-aware AI than a phone in a pocket. This could enable real-time translation or identifying objects in view, processed locally for privacy.

Meta's established presence presents a key challenge. Its Ray-Ban glasses are a sales success at around $299, while Apple's version is anticipated to cost significantly more. Apple must convince consumers that its design, integrated AI, and privacy protections justify a premium. If successful, this move could redefine the wearables market and how people interact with technology throughout their day.
