Apple Bets on Google's Cloud to Revive Siri

At Google's Cloud Next event, Thomas Kurian made the partnership official. Apple's next-generation AI, including a promised overhaul of Siri, will be built on Google's Gemini models and cloud infrastructure. This move, detailed in a joint statement earlier this year, confirms a strategic shift for Apple as it works to meet a year-end deadline for a more capable assistant.

For Apple, this is a pragmatic solution. Development of its own foundational models reportedly struggled with accuracy, delaying features. The multi-year deal provides immediate access to Gemini's advanced reasoning and personalization capabilities. Apple maintains that user privacy will be managed through its existing on-device and Private Cloud Compute systems, though complex queries will likely route to Google's servers.
