Anthropic announced on Thursday it has raised $30 billion in a Series G funding round, catapulting its valuation to $380 billion. This figure more than doubles the company's $183 billion valuation from its previous round. The news confirms earlier reports from Bloomberg.
The round was spearheaded by Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC and the investment firm Coatue. They were joined by a consortium of co-leaders including D. E. Shaw Ventures, Founders Fund, and Abu Dhabi's MGX. A long list of other major investors, such as Accel, General Catalyst, and the Qatar Investment Authority, also participated.
This massive capital injection arrives amid intense competition in the artificial intelligence sector, particularly with rival OpenAI. OpenAI itself is reportedly seeking to raise an additional $100 billion, a move that could push its valuation toward $830 billion.
In a statement, Anthropic's Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao pointed to customer demand as the driver for the raise. "From small startups to the largest corporations, our customers tell us Claude is integral to their operations," Rao said. "This investment mirrors that trust. We will channel these funds into developing the reliable, enterprise-level AI tools our clients rely on."
