Anthropic introduced Claude Design on Friday, an experimental feature that generates visual materials directly from a written description. Aimed at professionals such as founders and product managers, the tool is built for those who need to quickly translate an idea into a tangible visual format without specialized design skills.

Users start by describing what they want—for instance, a prototype for a calming meditation app with specific colors and layout. Claude produces an initial version, which can then be refined through direct edits or further instructions, like adjusting typography or adding a dark mode. While comparisons to design platforms like Canva are inevitable, Anthropic positions Claude Design as a complementary starting point, built for speed from a blank slate rather than from within a design application.

Finished projects, including slides, one-pagers, or prototypes, can be exported as PDFs, PowerPoint files, or URLs, and sent directly into Canva for full collaborative editing. A significant capability for business use is the tool's ability to ingest a company's codebase and design files to apply an existing visual system consistently across projects, with support for maintaining multiple design libraries.

Powered by the Claude Opus 4.7 model, Claude Design is available in a research preview for the company's Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. This launch continues Anthropic's focused expansion into workplace AI, following recent releases like the Claude Cowork assistant and agentic plug-ins. The move arrives amid reported investor interest in a new funding round that could value the company near its largest rival, though Anthropic has so far declined such offers.
