A recent experiment offers a clear look at how AI is moving from conversation to action. A developer, facing a common problem—five years of disorganized, inconsistently tagged notes in the Obsidian app—handed the mess to Claude Code, Anthropic's command-line AI tool. By connecting it to Obsidian via a local REST API plugin, the AI performed a systematic overhaul: merging duplicate tags, resurfacing forgotten files, and imposing order on the digital chaos. The entire process was supervised and completed in minutes, a task that would have taken hours manually.

This setup is telling. It uses a local API bridge, meaning the note files never left the developer's computer, addressing a key privacy concern. The AI agent interacted with them as a local service. The core takeaway isn't about note-taking apps; it's about a pattern. Advanced AI coding agents are now capable of executing multi-step operations on personal, structured data through APIs. They are becoming operational tools, not just conversational ones.
