Amazon is preparing to notify thousands of corporate employees of layoffs next week, according to sources familiar with the plans. This new wave of reductions is part of a broader initiative to eliminate approximately 30,000 corporate roles, a target set after the company cut about 14,000 jobs last October. The upcoming actions are expected to be similar in scale to that prior round.

The cuts reflect CEO Andy Jassy's ongoing effort to simplify the company's management structure and speed up decision-making. They are anticipated to affect mid-level managers and support staff across several divisions, including the profitable Amazon Web Services cloud unit, Prime Video, and retail operations. An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.

Internal discussions and online posts from employees indicate widespread anticipation of the move. Some workers have described a climate of tension, with the company citing a need for agility. The reductions follow a pattern seen at other major technology firms in recent years, as the industry adjusts after a period of rapid expansion during the pandemic.

Amazon's financial performance remains strong, with 2025 revenue exceeding $600 billion. Jassy has previously stated the restructuring is about efficiency, not financial distress. However, the adoption of artificial intelligence tools is also changing the nature of certain corporate roles, automating some tasks previously done by people.

Employees whose positions are eliminated are expected to receive severance packages including 90 days of pay and benefits. The continued cuts, set to unfold through mid-2026, are being watched closely in Amazon's hometown of Seattle, where they could influence the local economy and job market.
