AI Safety Debate Looms Over Salesforce's Dreamforce as Leaders Clash on Regulation

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff took the stage at Dreamforce in San Francisco this week, projecting annual revenue to top $46 billion in 2027 on demand for AI-powered products. But a debate over AI risk hung over the event.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has urged world leaders to help "pace the frontier" of AI development after researcher Jacob Coxon resigned and warned companies racing toward self-improving AI were "gambling with our lives." OpenAI's Sam Altman endorsed the idea.

White House AI adviser David Sacks dismissed the fears as "just another bid for regulatory capture," and President Trump called existential AI risk "a hoax." Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang argued AI safety is an "engineering problem" and said "we don't need any new laws, we don't need any new regulation."

Amodei said pacing the frontier doesn't mean "freezing the technology in place." Altman told attendees "the world is right to be afraid" of AI companies, while expressing hope OpenAI can empower users in its second decade.
