A new Gallup survey reveals a deepening split in the American workplace. While a quarter of U. S. employees now use artificial intelligence tools several times a week, nearly half remain untouched by the technology.

The data, collected in late 2025, shows overall adoption has plateaued, but those who embraced AI early are using it more intensely than ever. Daily use climbed to 12% of workers, with frequent use reaching 26%. This marks a significant shift: growth is no longer about bringing new people in, but about getting existing users to lean on the tools more heavily. The survey of over 22,000 workers indicates a stark divide in how AI is permeating different jobs.

Knowledge industries are surging ahead. Technology leads with 77% of workers using AI, including 31% daily. Finance and professional services saw notable jumps in the last quarter of 2025. In contrast, retail and manufacturing lag significantly, with only a third of employees engaging with AI at all.

The gap is even more pronounced between remote-capable roles, where two-thirds use AI, and on-site positions, where only a third do. This suggests the technology is amplifying existing productivity disparities between office-based and frontline work. Organizational efforts appear uneven. While 38% of workers said their employer had introduced AI tools to improve productivity, 41% reported no such initiatives, and a concerning 21% were simply unaware of their company's plans.

This communication gap may be slowing broader integration. The pattern points to a critical juncture for businesses. Early adopters, often in leadership or technical roles, are accelerating their use and seeing benefits. Without deliberate strategies to train and include other segments of the workforce, companies risk creating a two-tiered system that could undermine morale and leave significant productivity gains on the table.
