AI-Generated Music Floods Streaming Platforms, Deezer Reports

A new report from streaming service Deezer reveals a startling trend: nearly half of all new music uploaded to its platform is now created by artificial intelligence. The company states that 44% of daily uploads, translating to roughly 75,000 tracks, are AI-generated. Perhaps more concerning, Deezer indicates the majority of streams for this synthetic content are themselves fraudulent, driven by bots rather than human listeners.

The surge in AI music presents a unique challenge. Unlike visual AI art, these audio tracks are often engineered to mimic the polished, generic sound of commercial human-made music. In a blind test conducted by Deezer, 97% of users could not distinguish between an AI-produced song and one created by a person. This seamless integration allows synthetic content to populate playlists unnoticed.

While most platforms do not flag this material, Deezer has invested in proprietary detection systems. The company now labels AI-generated uploads and licenses its identification technology to other firms, claiming a false positive rate below 0.01%. The data underscores a growing infrastructural issue for digital media: as generative audio tools become more accessible, platforms must develop new methods to ensure authenticity and fair compensation for human artists, all while maintaining listener trust.
